Side is also an excellent place to browse the attractive shops in the narrow streets leading down to the harbour.
For those of you on a careful budget our experience is that restaurant prices tend to be cheaper in the town of Manavgat which is reachable either by Dolmus (bus stop 400 or so yards from Four Seasons) fare only 2.5 lire each way or by taking the Four Seasons courtesy bus to Migros supermarket and then catching dolmus to Manavgat. This should be even cheaper (as the first leg of the journey is free) and you won’t need to walk. When returning from Manavgat simply wait by bus stop until you see a bus with Ilica - Kumkoy on the front. An inexpensive restaurant in Manavgat is called Adresse and is situated near to NUR Pastalaneri a very pleasant coffee shop in the main street. Conveniently there is a bus stop within about 100 yards of Adresse.
Without a doubt the largest disco in this area is situated between Kumkoy and Side and is called OXYD, although we have not yet been inside it we understand that the capacity is for 3000 people and that there is a swimming pool inside the disco where revellers can jump in to cool off after their exertions on the dance floor so it is advisable to wear swimwear as underwear.
Close to the temples of Apollo and Athena see centre picture above is the excellent disco called Club Athena
In the harbour area of Side is an excellent outdoor disco called The Lighthouse Club which serves as an early evening restaurant and later on as a large disco which sometimes hosts live bands.
Discos nearer to Four Seasons include 3 all near the Holiday Point Hotel in Kumkoy; namely Club Samata, Laguna and Temple (all accessible within a 100 yard stretch of road)
Another popular discotheque which is situated in Kumkoy even nearer to Four Seasons is called Sammy’s Disco and to watch a video clip taken in Sammy’s click here.
Please note that there is a fantastic market in Manavgat which is held on Mondays and Thursdays, you need to go over the river bridge and you will find it on the right hand side of the road approximately 200 yards in from the road. There are exceptionally low prices to be had if you are prepared to haggle and we have found some of the nicest tomatoes we have ever tasted at this market. As well as food you can find all sorts of clothes as well. Our verdict is unmissable!!
Side market is held on Saturdays and is held on the outskirts of Side, just head for the mosque and you should not miss it.
Obviously this is the nearest market to Four Seasons and is held on Wednesdays near the fire station (approximately 500 yds from Four Seasons) when locals and people from neighbouring villages sell their garden produce and other items. It is possible to buy excellent fresh fish here as well as a very large selection of fruit and vegetables.
Many different water sports are available locally including para-sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, jet skiing, and banana boat.
Other sports include Horse Riding which is centred around the pine forest at Sorgun and Titreyen Gol.
Skiing is available from December to April at a resort called Saklikent which means Hidden City and is approximately 50km from Antalya. It is not a big resort but it offers 2 Ski runs and 2 T-bar lifts, it is about 2500metres high.
It is possible to take a route from Side to Koprulu Canyon National Park where it is possible to go on an exciting white water rafting trip or simply go hiking around this 14km canyon where the scenery is stunning.
Quad bike safaris and racing are also available based in Manavgat.
To see all outdoor sports available in the area go to the Antalya Outdoor website (They have a local office in Manavgat.) Alternatively visit the Tourist information centre in Side.

Belek is probably the largest centre for Golf Courses in the whole of Turkey and as well as the Papillon (Colin Montgomerie) and Cornelia (Nick Faldo) the Belek courses include Antalya Golf Club (Sultan & Pasha Courses),The Karya Golf Club, The Kaya Eagles Golf Course, and The Sueno Pines Club
The main entertainment in this area centres around the towns of Kumkoy (2km) and Side (5km).
With the advantage of a free on site shuttle bus you can set off for an evening’s dining and entertainment in these two towns with ease.
There are a number of restaurants, particularly in Kumkoy, which will organise a courtesy lift for you back to your apartment.
Two that spring immediately to mind are Bistro 2000 in Kumkoy and Umitz near Lineker’s Bar, but we are sure that the shuttle bus driver knows others who provide the same service. In the unlikely event that a lift is not available there are frequent inexpensive Dolmus (bus services) back from Side and Kumkoy but you will need to change buses in Kumkoy when travelling back from Side, or you may prefer to get a taxi.
Side Harbour & Lighthouse Temple of Athena & Apollo Side Side Harbour
As well as in Kumkoy there is a very large number of restaurants and bars in the town of Side some of which are situated next to the picturesque harbour area and make it excellent for a very romantic and enjoyable meal.

Antalya is a fascinating city to visit and you have a choice of getting there in an adventurous manner or simply booking a guided tour in Kumkoy or Side. If you are adventurous and are on a careful budget you can simply walk to the bottom of the hill 3 /4 mile from Four Seasons stand to the right of the arch where you see a small cafe and catch a coach to Antalya Otogar (bus station). This will only cost you about 10 lire each way and you may be able to get a lift from Four Seasons to the archway if you prefer not to walk. Once at the Antalya Otogar you simply catch another bus to the main shopping centre from where you can walk down to the picturesque harbour or even catch a third bus to the magnificent Duden Falls as seen above
Other attractions in and around Antalya include Aqualand (tel 00902420900) a water park where in the Dolphin Land next door it is possible to swim with Dolphins. You may like to go on the longest cable car in Europe to view Mount Tahtali which is around 6000 feet and offers views of the snow capped peaks alongside magnificent views of the coastline.
Antalya also has a magnificent archaeological museum about 2 miles west of centre where finds from many different major sites are now collated.
This huge amphitheatre was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius around 161 - 180 AD. It was renovated in the 1920s at the request of Ataturk. This amphitheatre is still used for concerts held in June and it can accommodate around 20,000 people on 40 rows of seats. Concert tickets can be obtained for the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival by contacting Antalya tourist board on 00902422385144
Aspendos is about 30 minutes away from Four Seasons by car.
Manavgat waterfall is not as high as the Duden falls but it is much wider and makes a very impressive sight. There are basically 3 options for you to consider when deciding how to reach the falls.
The most expensive way is to catch a boat from Side Harbour and involves a full day trip going from the sea up the Manavgat river. The second method is to catch a boat in Manavgat by the main bridge and after a while you transfer to a minibus for the final leg to the falls.
The last method and by far the cheapest is to travel to Manavgat by bus and then catch another bus direct to the falls.
Another tourist attraction is the Manavgat Olympinar Dam and beautiful Green Canyon which will also involve bus travel.
This volcanic region is considered to be one of the most visually exciting areas of Turkey but visiting this area involves a 10 to 12 hour car trip. Giant projections called fairy chimneys extend vertically and it is also possible to take full advantage of seeing the area in great detail by taking a hot air balloon trip. There are 3 day coach trips from towns like Side or Kumkoy which are relatively inexpensive.

There are enough sites and activities in this area of Turkey to keep you occupied for months on end and for those of you who are new to Turkey you will surely wish to return again and again.
